AI loan file review software in 2026: 12 platforms that flag only the exceptions

For underwriting, processing and credit operations leads at lenders. See which platforms have AI agents that check a loan file and send people only the exceptions. Then see who clears those exceptions and how to choose a platform.

An open loan folder with two ruled sheets under three magnifying glasses. Two highlighted rows on the left sheet have green checks, and one row on the right sheet has a small flag

Key takeaways

  • AI loan file review software uses AI agents to read every document in a loan file. The agents check each one against the application, the other documents and your rules, and people see only the checks that failed.
  • We sorted 12 platforms into four kinds. Document AI for the whole file covers Docsumo, Ocrolus and Inscribe. Mortgage pre-underwriting agents are LoanLight, Sei AI, Blend Autopilot and Addy, and ICE and Vesta build the checks into the LOS. Credit agents for business loans are Uptiq, Taktile and MightyBot.
  • Who clears the exceptions differs by platform. Most send them to your own staff. At Ocrolus, the company's own staff also check the documents and fields that its software can't confirm.
  • None of the 12 publishes prices. Ocrolus offers a free trial of up to 100 pages, Inscribe a four-week pilot and Docsumo a 14-day trial for up to 1,000 pages.
  • Test any platform on loans you've already closed. Count the exceptions your underwriters agree with, the ones it missed and the false alarms.

AI loan file review software uses AI agents to read every document in a loan file. The agents check each document against the application, the other documents and your rules. Underwriters then see only the checks that failed, with the evidence attached. Docsumo, Inscribe, LoanLight, Sei AI and Uptiq are among the platforms that work this way. Ocrolus and ICE run similar checks for mortgages but don't call them agents.

We compared 12 platforms. They differ most on the loans they're built for, on who clears the exceptions and on how results reach your loan origination system (LOS). Every vendor fact comes from the vendor's own website, checked on October 21, 2026. Docsumo is our product. We didn't test any of the platforms on our own loan files.

Which lender are you?

For lenders whose own underwriters clear the exceptions
Docsumo reads and checks every document in small business, merchant cash advance (MCA), consumer, commercial and mortgage files. Your team sees only what failed. It works with Encompass, MeridianLink, nCino, Blend and any other LOS with an API, through Docsumo's API and webhooks. See Docsumo for lending.
For mortgage lenders on Encompass
ICE Mortgage Analyzers run inside Encompass. Ocrolus writes conditions that cite the Selling Guide and syncs them to Encompass. LoanLight handles non-QM (non-qualified mortgage) files inside Encompass. Docsumo works with Encompass through the API and webhooks.
For Non-QM, jumbo and DSCR (debt service coverage ratio) lenders
LoanLight builds its agents for non-agency loans, which fall outside Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and government loan programs. It has agents for bank statement income and appraisal review. Sei AI covers non-QM as well as agency loans.
For lenders already on Blend
Blend Autopilot checks each document against Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac or your own rules as it arrives, for your loan officers. It runs only on Blend's platform.
For commercial, SBA and small business credit teams
Docsumo reads business tax returns, financial statements and bank statements. On the Enterprise plan, it checks them against the application and each other. Uptiq applies your credit policy and drafts the credit memo. MightyBot runs a plain-English credit policy as fixed checks.
For teams that want to build their own agent
Dynamiq, StackAI and Lyzr are general agent platforms for building your own review agent. You set the rules and connect your documents and systems, with your engineers or the vendor's.

What an AI loan file review agent checks

An agent runs the checks a processor or underwriter would run by hand. It starts when the file arrives, and it runs again each time a new document comes in.

  • Loan application
  • Pay stubs and W-2s
  • Bank statements
  • Tax returns

How an AI agent reviews a loan file

The checks differ by loan type, but most files get some version of these.

  • The file is completeEvery document the loan product needs is in the file, with no missing months or pages.
  • Each document is recent enoughNo pay stub or statement is older than your limit allows. Fannie Mae says income and asset documents can be no more than four months old on the note date.
  • Income agrees across documentsThe pay stub, the W-2, the tax return and the payroll deposits on the bank statements all support the income on the application.
  • Deposits make senseOn a business loan, deposits are compared with the revenue on the application. On a mortgage purchase, Fannie Mae asks where a large deposit came from. That applies when the money goes toward the down payment, closing costs or reserves.
  • The statements add upEach transaction is checked against the statement's running balance, so a misread or missing line stands out.
  • Names and addresses matchThe borrower's name, date of birth and address agree across the ID, the application and the other documents.
  • Your own rules passThese are your limits for each loan product, such as debt-to-income or debt service coverage, plus any investor overlays you follow.

Fannie Mae counts a deposit as large when one deposit is more than half the loan's total monthly qualifying income. Your own rules may set a different limit for other loan types. For the tools that run these checks on a borrower's documents, see financial document verification software. It also covers services that get income data from payroll providers and banks.

How exception-only review works

Every check ends one of three ways. It passes, it fails, or the agent isn't sure of a value. A file where every check passes goes on to underwriting with nothing to clear. A failed check becomes an exception. A value the agent isn't sure of goes to a person to confirm first.

An exception is useful only if the underwriter can act on it without opening the whole file again. So it should show the two values that disagree, the page each came from and the rule that failed. An exception that only says "Check income" sends someone back through every page. One that says "July deposits of $88,412.10, 26% below the stated monthly revenue of $120,000.00" tells them what to ask the borrower.

Each kind of exception also needs an owner. A missing document goes back to the processor, who asks the borrower or broker for it. Two documents that disagree go to the underwriter. A failed rule goes to whoever owns that rule, often the underwriter or the quality control (QC) team. The agent shows where documents in the file disagree with each other or with your rules. The underwriter decides whether the difference matters. On most platforms, people still make the credit decision.

Where the agent sits next to your LOS

An agent doesn't replace your LOS or your automated underwriting system. It sits between the incoming documents and those systems. Documents arrive by email, upload or API, from the borrower, the broker or the LOS itself. The agent sorts and reads them, runs the checks and sends the exceptions to a review queue. Checked data then goes on to the LOS or decision engine, usually through an API and webhooks. Webhooks send the results to your system as soon as the checks finish.

Some platforms run inside one LOS instead, as ICE's Mortgage Analyzers do in Encompass. Others write their findings back to the LOS as conditions to clear. Either way, your LOS still holds the official loan record, and the credit decision stays where it is today.

Ask each vendor about four parts. Files come in from an inbox, an upload or the LOS. Results post back when the checks finish. A test environment lets your engineers check the field mapping before it touches live loans. An audit log records who cleared each exception and when.

The kinds of AI loan file review platform

  • Document AI for the whole file

Reads every document in the file, checks it against the application and the others, and sends exceptions to your staff. Examples: Docsumo, Ocrolus, Inscribe.
  • Mortgage pre-underwriting agents

Work a mortgage file against agency or investor guidelines and your overlays before it reaches the underwriter. Examples: LoanLight, Sei AI, Blend Autopilot, Addy.
  • Checks built into the LOS

The review runs inside the loan origination system. Examples: ICE Mortgage Analyzers in Encompass, and Vesta, an LOS built around agents.
  • Credit agents for business loans

Apply your credit policy to business loan files, draft the credit memo and route the exceptions. Examples: Uptiq, Taktile, MightyBot.
  • Agent builders

General platforms for building your own review agent, with your engineers or the vendor's. Examples: Dynamiq, StackAI, Lyzr.

We also checked other platforms that describe the same exception workflow but don't have their own entry in the list below. Candor Technology, Gateless, Tavant and Indecomm sell mortgage underwriting software. Each clears the items it can and sends the rest to underwriters. LoanCite does the same for non-QM bank statement loans and is in early access. Infrrd's Ally agent audits mortgage files for quality control. Kaaj and Aloan build agents for business and commercial lending.

The 12 AI loan file review platforms

Docsumo is our product, so we've put it first and said plainly what it doesn't do. The other 11 follow, each tagged with what it's built for.

1. Docsumo

Document AI platformOur product
Docsumo is an intelligent document processing (IDP) platform. For lending, its agents collect, classify, extract and cross-check every document in a loan file, then post the result to your system. Your team sees only the exceptions. Docsumo is software, not a review service, so your own processors and underwriters clear them. It doesn't make the credit decision, and it doesn't produce Fannie Mae Form 1084 or Freddie Mac Form 91 income calculations.
Loans
Small business, MCA, consumer, commercial and mortgage files
Sorts
One upload of up to 500 pages is split into the documents inside it, with 99% classification accuracy. AI Split takes a plain-English definition of each document type. Classification and splitting are on the Business plan
Checks
Each document against the application, the other documents and your rules. Checks between documents run as cross-document validation, on the Enterprise plan. Bank statements also get a running-balance check, and you can add your own checks and calculations as workflow steps
Exceptions
In the case review, the "Show only failed" switch hides every check that passed, and a reviewer can ask Copilot what failed and why. The case review is part of case management, on the Enterprise plan
Review
You set a confidence threshold for each field, and fields below it go to a person. Clicking a field highlights the line it came from, and each correction improves the model
Missing documents
The Document Collection and Email agents email the sender to ask for a document that's missing from the file
Output
Works with Encompass, MeridianLink, nCino, Blend and any other LOS with an API, through the API and webhooks
Pricing
A free 14-day trial for up to 1,000 pages; Business and Enterprise plans are quoted. Runs in the cloud only
Best fitMid-sized and enterprise lenders whose own underwriters clear the exceptions, across more than one loan type
  • 95%+of documents AI Approved, with no one touching them
  • 99%field-level accuracy on 250+ document types
  • <1 minper complex bank statement at Grid Finance

2. Ocrolus

Lending document AI
Ocrolus sells document and cash flow analysis to lenders. For mortgages, its Inspect product compares borrower documents with the 1003 application in Encompass. It lists mismatches, undisclosed employers and accounts, and missing documents. Since April 1, 2026, it also writes borrower-specific conditions on its own, each citing a Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac Selling Guide section. Ocrolus doesn't call Inspect an agent.
Loans
Mortgage, including non-QM. For small business funding it provides cash flow analytics rather than an exception queue, and it also serves auto and consumer lenders
Checks
Documents against the 1003, plus large deposits, wage garnishments and undisclosed debts. It calculates income under Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and government-backed guidelines
Exceptions
Your underwriters import or discard each condition, and conditions sync both ways with Encompass. Ocrolus's own staff also check the documents and fields that its software can't confirm
Output
Encompass and MeridianLink Mortgage, a conditions API, and a REST API with webhooks
Pricing
Not published. It charges per document processed, and a free trial covers up to 100 pages
Best fitMortgage lenders on Encompass or MeridianLink who want conditions written for them. See Docsumo vs Ocrolus

3. Inscribe

Document review agents
Inscribe's AI agents check each document in a loan application. They test whether it's authentic, extract its fields and check the math and contradictions across documents. Each document gets a 0 to 100 Trust Score and a plain-language summary. Documents above your thresholds clear on their own, and flagged ones go to your analysts. Inscribe calls itself a document fraud platform, so its checks center on the documents, not your credit policy.
Loans
Consumer, small business and equipment finance. Mortgage isn't one of its segments
Checks
Signs of editing, dates, totals and balances that don't reconcile, contradictions across documents, and employer and address checks
Exceptions
Your own analysts and underwriters review what's flagged, in your queue
Output
REST API and webhooks, with partner integrations for Alloy, Taktile and Oscilar. Its site names no specific LOS
Pricing
Base and Premium plans priced by document volume, with a four-week free pilot
Best fitConsumer and small business lenders that want each document screened before underwriting

4. LoanLight

Mortgage pre-underwriting agents
LoanLight builds pre-underwriting agents for non-agency mortgages. They work each file inside the lender's LOS, from intake to clear-to-close. They check that documents are present, current and signed. They match the 1003 and LOS data to the source documents. They also test credit and property against the loan program and investor overlays. Every finding cites a guideline, and nothing moves to the next stage without a person's sign-off.
Loans
Non-QM, jumbo and DSCR mortgages, including 12- or 24-month bank statement loans
Checks
Document health, data validation, the 1003, credit and property. Specialized agents calculate bank statement income and debt service coverage, and review appraisals
Exceptions
Flags with evidence collect in a Decision Desk inside the LOS, for the underwriter. Checks run at intake, on every new document and again 7 days before clear-to-close
Output
Encompass, as an Encompass Partner Connect provider, plus a direct API
Pricing
Not published. It offers a pilot on a real loan and says the lender doesn't pay if it can't show clear value
Best fitNon-QM lenders on Encompass. LoanLight launched its agent platform in January 2026

5. Uptiq

Credit agents for business loans
Uptiq sells AI agents to banks and other lenders. Its intake agents collect documents and flag missing or inconsistent information. They also run identity checks on the borrower and the business, known as KYC and KYB. Its underwriting agents spread tax returns, financial statements and bank statements, which means putting their numbers into a standard format for analysis. Then they apply the lender's credit policy and flag exceptions for human review. A Loan Review and Credit QA Agent re-checks loans against policy after they close.
Loans
Commercial, small business, SBA 7(a) and 504, commercial real estate, equipment finance and consumer loans. No mortgage underwriting agent is listed
Checks
Your credit policy, including ratios, global cash flow and debt service coverage, and SBA eligibility rules on SBA loans
Exceptions
Underwriters, bankers or compliance teams review and approve the agents' work, and the results are written back to the systems that hold your loan records. In loan review, the loan review officer keeps final authority. The underwriting agent's main output is a credit memo with a citation behind every number
Output
100+ pre-built integrations, including core banking systems, credit bureaus and CRMs. Its site names no specific LOS
Pricing
Not published. A February 2026 release describes a base platform fee plus usage charges
Best fitBanks and credit unions automating business loan underwriting and loan review. Uptiq raised a $25 million Series B in February 2026

6. Sei AI

Mortgage pre-underwriting agents
Sei AI sells AI agents to mortgage lenders and servicers on one platform. It indexes the loan package, calculates income, and creates and clears conditions against the agency guides and your overlays. It also checks the Closing Disclosure and runs quality control (QC) on loans. Sei says your underwriters see only the exceptions, each with its rule and source page.
Loans
Conventional, FHA, VA, USDA, jumbo, home equity line of credit (HELOC) and non-QM mortgages
Checks
The Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac guides, the FHA handbook, investor overlays and your credit policy. It also checks TRID tolerances, the federal limits on how much closing costs can change from the Loan Estimate
Exceptions
Findings below a confidence threshold go to your own underwriter as named exceptions, and conditions are written back to the LOS
Output
Reads from and writes back to Encompass, Calyx and MeridianLink
Pricing
Not published
Best fitMortgage lenders that want indexing, conditions and QC from one vendor. In Sei's February 2026 case study, Better Mortgage cut pre-close QC from 4 hours 50 minutes to 47 minutes per file

7. Blend Autopilot

Mortgage pre-underwriting agents
Blend Autopilot is an AI agent inside Blend's mortgage and home equity platform. Each time a borrower uploads a document or finishes a section, it classifies the document and cross-checks it against the application. It also calculates qualifying income and checks your guideline set. It writes follow-up requests for the borrower, and every finding cites its guideline. Blend says Autopilot doesn't make credit decisions.
Loans
Mortgage and home equity, on Blend's platform only
Checks
Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac guidelines, your overlays or your own custom rules. Blend quotes 15 to 25 seconds per review
Exceptions
Findings land in a live activity feed for loan officers. In Selective Follow-up Mode, straightforward requests go to borrowers, and items that need a person's judgment go to your team
Output
Inside Blend. Agents your team builds can also use Blend's data through its MCP server, a standard connection for AI agents. The Autopilot pages name no specific LOS
Pricing
Not published. It became commercially available on July 1, 2026, after a free preview
Best fitLenders already on Blend who want files checked before they reach underwriting

8. ICE Mortgage Analyzers

Checks built into the LOS
ICE Mortgage Technology makes the Encompass LOS. Its Mortgage Analyzers check income, credit and assets inside Encompass. They also audit the whole file for missing documents and data that doesn't match. ICE says the Analyzers flag only the exceptions that need human review. It doesn't call them agents.
Loans
Mortgage. The Credit Analyzer checks against Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (GSE), FHA and ability-to-repay (ATR) guidelines, plus your own rules
Checks
Income from pay stubs, W-2s and 1040s, and the credit report. On asset statements, it finds large deposits and withdrawal patterns and applies 23 built-in checklist rules
Exceptions
Results go back into the Encompass loan file for your underwriters
Output
Inside Encompass. ICE's Data & Document Automation, sold alongside, indexes and validates the documents
Pricing
Not published
Best fitLenders on Encompass who want exception-based underwriting from their LOS vendor. In a May 2026 ICE case study, Equity Prime Mortgage went from about 2 to more than 5 loans per underwriter a day

9. Vesta

Checks built into the LOS
Vesta is a mortgage loan origination system built around AI agents. Any task can go to a person or an agent. Agents check applications for errors, verify employment, review credit and appraisals, and run the automated underwriting system (AUS). They can also make initial underwriting decisions, clear conditions and review closing packages. They hand anything they can't resolve to a person, and their reasoning is logged to the loan file.
Loans
Mortgage, including self-employed income, K-1s, construction and non-QM
Checks
Built-in validations for anything missing, inconsistent or off-guideline
Exceptions
Escalations land in the same LOS queue as the rest of the work. You set what each agent can do and when it must hand off
Output
Vesta is the LOS, with 100+ integrations listed, including Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac
Pricing
Not published
Best fitMortgage lenders ready to change their LOS. Vesta announced a $30 million Series B in October 2026

10. Addy

Mortgage pre-underwriting agents
Addy sells AI agents for mortgage processing. They read the loan file and check it against the AUS findings and the lender's guidelines. They list missing items and unresolved conditions in a processing checklist. They also follow up with borrowers for documents.
Loans
Residential mortgage
Checks
Missing documents, income issues, eligibility and guideline fit, and unresolved conditions
Exceptions
A processing checklist for loan officers, processors and underwriters, before the file reaches underwriting
Output
Works inside MeridianLink Mortgage since June 2026. Addy also says it brings its agents into Encompass, and it has its own app, a browser extension and a ChatGPT app
Pricing
Not published
Best fitMortgage processing teams that want files cleaned up before underwriting

11. Taktile

Credit decision platform
Taktile is a low-code decision platform for banks, fintechs and insurers. Risk teams build their credit policy in it. Its decision flows and AI agents can approve, decline or escalate each case. The agents can also check that an application is complete, put financial statements into a standard format and flag discrepancies for review. Borderline cases go to an underwriter with the context attached.
Loans
Commercial and consumer credit
Checks
The credit policy your risk team builds, with data from credit bureaus and other data providers
Exceptions
Taktile's case management and human review queues
Output
Decision flows, AI agents and Case Manager queues inside Taktile

12. MightyBot

Credit agents for business loans
MightyBot is an AI agent platform with use cases in lending. Its agents classify and extract the loan package, run the lender's plain-English credit policy as fixed checks and draft the credit memo. Loans that need judgment go to underwriters with the evidence attached.
Loans
Commercial loans, commercial real estate, SBA 7(a) loans and construction draws. It also offers a pre-screen for conventional mortgages
Checks
Your credit policy, run the same way on every file. Values it isn't sure of go to a person

How to choose AI loan file review software

  1. Start with your loan typeMortgage, non-QM, small business, consumer and commercial files hold different documents and follow different rules. Shortlist the platforms built for the loans you make.
  2. Write down the checks you run todayList the checks your processors and underwriters repeat on every file. Ask each vendor to show those checks running, not the checks in its demo.
  3. Ask to see one exceptionIt should show both values, the pages they came from and the rule that failed. If your underwriter would still have to open the file to understand a flag, the platform hasn't saved them any work.
  4. Ask who clears the exceptionsSome platforms send every exception to your own staff. On others, the vendor's own people check some items first. Decide which you want before you compare prices.
  5. Check how results reach your LOSA platform can run inside one LOS, write conditions back to it, or send data through an API and webhooks your team connects. Ask what happens when a field in their system has no matching field in yours.
  6. Price it at your volumeNone of these vendors publishes prices. Ask for a quote at your monthly file count, and count the time your team will still spend on exceptions.
  7. Test on loans you've already closedRun 20 or so closed files through each finalist. Count the exceptions your underwriters agree with, the ones the platform missed and the false alarms.

Our take. A loan rarely goes wrong because one page was misread. It goes wrong when the pay stub, the bank statements and the application don't agree, and nobody compared them. So we'd judge these platforms on the checks they run between documents, not on how well they read a single page. On Docsumo, those checks are cross-document validation, on the Enterprise plan.

Pick by loan type, then by who clears the exceptions

Start with the loans you make. Mortgage lenders on Encompass can start with ICE's Mortgage Analyzers, Ocrolus or LoanLight, and lenders on Blend with Autopilot. For non-QM files, look at LoanLight or Sei AI. For business loans, look at Uptiq, Taktile or MightyBot. If you make more than one kind of loan and want your own team to clear the exceptions, Docsumo is built for that.

Book a demo and bring a closed loan file with the borrower details masked, plus the exceptions your team found in it. You can also start a free trial.

Frequently asked questions

Which platforms use AI agents to review loan files and flag only the exceptions?

Docsumo, Inscribe, LoanLight, Sei AI and Uptiq are among them. For mortgages, Blend Autopilot and Addy also use AI agents, while Ocrolus and ICE's Mortgage Analyzers run similar checks without calling them agents. For business loans, Uptiq, Taktile and MightyBot apply your credit policy. Docsumo works across loan types and sends every exception to your own team.

What does AI loan file review software check?

It checks that the file is complete and that each document is recent enough. It checks that income agrees across the pay stub, W-2, tax return and bank statements, and that names and addresses match. It also runs your own rules. Each failed check reaches a person with the two values and the pages they came from.

Do AI agents approve or decline loans?

Most don't. On the document review platforms here, agents read documents, run checks and ask for missing items, and your underwriters decide. Blend says Autopilot doesn't make credit decisions, and LoanLight says nothing moves to the next stage without a person's sign-off. Two platforms work differently. Vesta's agents can make initial underwriting decisions, and Taktile's decision flows and agents can approve or decline the cases you set them to.

How is AI loan file review different from an automated underwriting system?

An automated underwriting system, such as Fannie Mae's Desktop Underwriter, gives a recommendation based on the loan data. AI loan file review checks the documents behind that data. It makes sure the income and assets in the system match the pay stubs, statements and returns. Our guide to automated underwriting software covers the decision side.

How much does AI loan file review software cost?

None of the 12 platforms here publishes prices. Ocrolus charges per document processed and offers a free trial of up to 100 pages. Inscribe offers a four-week pilot, and Uptiq describes a platform fee plus usage. Docsumo has a free 14-day trial for up to 1,000 pages and quotes its Business and Enterprise plans.

Does AI loan file review software work with Encompass?

Several platforms do. ICE's Mortgage Analyzers run inside Encompass, and LoanLight is an Encompass Partner Connect provider. Ocrolus and Sei AI write conditions back to it. Docsumo works with Encompass, MeridianLink, nCino, Blend and any other LOS with an API, through the API and webhooks.
